The site where the Iceman was found on Tisenjoch is the highlight of this hike which leads across Hochjochferner from Similaunhütte to Hochjochhospiz and into Vent’s high alpine regions. From the refuge a trail climbs steeply up a wide ridge which later turns into a moderately steep boulder ridge which is never really narrow but still has some fixed cables for assistance. The last section of the trail to Tisenjoch (3218m) in South Tirol, takes you through wider and flatter terrain again, with some short downhill sections. Once you have reached Tisenjoch the trail climbs for another 100 meters to Hauslabjoch (approx. 1 ½ hrs. from Similaunhütte, no ice on the way) before descending in northern direction. The trail leaves the glacier at approx. 3000 meters above sea level, at approx. 2950 meters the trail joins the path coming down from Seikogel. Continue on this path which descends moderately, then steeply, to Rofental. Cross Hochjochbach River at approx. 2500 meters above sea level. After a rather flat stretch the path once more descends in steep switchbacks to another brook. The path crosses the river and climbs for another 100 meters before reaching Hochjochhospiz on the opposite slope.
