One the hike from Frischmannhütte to Erlanger Hütte you can climb 3079-meter tall Fundusfeiler which affords superb views of the surrounding peaks. From the refuge the trail rolls through meadows to Funduskar and then switchbacks up steeply to Fundusrinne and on to Feilerscharte (2926m). On the way up you have to scramble past two rock overhangs which have fixed cables for you to hold on. A wide and easy ridge walk takes you to the peak of Fundusfeilers (approx. 30 min. from Feilerscharte). Backtrack to Feilerscharte, then head in northern direction through scree and boulders down to “Schwarze Loch”. At the fork, make a right and continue westwards through gently rolling pastures. Later on the trail climbs in switchbacks to a mountain dip past which you can already see crystal-clear Wettersee, one of the Ötztal’st most pristine lakes. From the lake it’s a only few more minutes to Erlanger Hütte. The refuge is set on the edge of a plateau which is flanked by mighty peaks on three sides.
