A Peak With A Hut

A lodge on a peak is the destination of this diverse and beautiful hike near Sölden. The small, relatively new and comfortable Brunnenkogelhaus stands on the summit of Vorderer Brunnenkogel (2738m) and commands superb views of the Ötztal and Stubai Alps. The starting point for this hike is Siegerlandhütte in the upper Windachtal. From the lodge you walk down to the base terminal of the goods lift and continue through Windachtal, circumventing a gorge to the right. At the goods lift of Hildesheimer Hütte you take the old road which descends moderately to a bridge (approx. 1950 meters above sea level) which marks the last downhill part of this hike. Cross the river and follow the steep path in southern and/or south-eastern direction through a forest to the foothills of Schönkarschneid and continue westwards. The trail crosses Schönkar basin and circumvents a rocky outcrop (fixed cable). The last stretch of the trail is steeply up to a saddle from where it’s only a few more minutes to Brunnenkogelhaus on Vorderer Brunnenkogel and its spectacular views.
