Amberger Hütte (2136 m) - Atterkarjöchl (2976 m) - Sölden (1368 m)

Along Deserted Footpaths To Sölden

From Amberger Hütte at the foot of 3497-meter tall Schrankogel the trail contours along the valley, with Sulztalferner ahead of you. Pick up the trail to your right and climb the steep slope. Continue through the meadows to the moraine ridge, climb the ridge to the small, slightly ascending glacier field below rocky Atterkarjöchl. Climb the glacier field on its left side, heading towards the poles on the saddle. Depending on the snow conditions (light) crampons might be required here. From Atterkarjöchl you enjoy splendid views of Ötztal’s Wildspitze, Tirol’s highest mountain, and the glaciers in Obergurgl and Sölden. A well-marked trail now descends through very steep and boulder-strewn terrain into deserted Atterkar where you typically only meet sheep. The trail crosses jagged Atterkar and reaches a verdant basin through which a brook meanders and continues down to Kaiserbergalm (not serviced) and through the forest above Ötztal. An unsealed and then sealed road take you into the hamlet of Kaisers. Follow the road to the right of Ötztaler Ache into the center of Sölden (alternatively you can take the base from Kaisers; this saves you approx. 30 min. of walking).
