Although the tour along Venter Tal valley covers 40 kilometers and almost 1000 meters of altitude gain, it offers no major difficulties as the entire stage leads along asphalted roads. The renowned Rofenhöfe Farms at 2022 m above sea level – Austria's highest permanently settled farmhouses – are the top of this scenic tour. A refreshment stop is strongly recommended in one of the quaint mountain inns.
The small mountaineering village of Vent is deeply rooted in history: for a very long time the Rofenhöfe Farms were ruled by noblemen from South Tyrol's Vinschgau Region. Still today, every summer some 2000 sheep are driven from Italy's Schnalstal valley to the high Alpine pastures of Vent. They follow a century-old footpath which travels also past the place where Ötzi the Iceman was found.
