Now the Innerwald beginners ski area and the village center are linked directly thanks to the new "Zentrum Shuttle" installed by Bergbahnen Sölden, a true infrastructural masterpiece. The state-of-the-art inclined elevator went into operation in mid-December 2010.
A ride in the Zentrum Shuttle is pleasant and easy to handle as the top modern technology is quite similar to a normal hotel elevator without requiring any knowhow. The glazed cabin of the Zentrum Shuttle conquers the steep track covering 107 meters of altitude difference on a length of 267 meters within no time.
The Zentrum Shuttle offers two fully glazed, panoramic cabins for 40 persons each. A panoramic ride promises great vistas of Sölden and its surroundings. Night owls can use the direct link between Sölden and the hamlet of Innerwald until 0.00 am. A fully automated rail system, which detects changes in level along the course, balances the cabins on their way between the terminals.
The inclined elevator seems to float above the ground, at least the passengers have such an impression during the 3-minute ride. Of course, the People Mover never loses its wheel-to-rail adherence along the spectacular track that covers gradients between 23 and 32 degrees.
The Obermoser Architectural Office from Innsbruck designed the elevator, after planning also the new Gaislachkogl Mountain Gondola. The light-flooded top station rises a couple of meters above the road located right below. The latest technology is provided by Doppelmayr's affiliated "ABS Transportbahnen".
