Due to a high over Scandinavia in low-altitude air layers and an upper low-pressure area over East Europe the cold air in our regions will continue and lows over the Mediterranean will be kept at distance. The cold and fair winter weather will continue up to and including Saturday. A first flush of milder Atlantic air accompanied by fronts will push against the winter cold, but not before Sunday. The weather models indicate, that the snow line will rise towards 1500m. Experience has shown that cold air pads, such as the current, are persistent and that the snow line will remain at the base of the valleys. Moreover, somewhat colder air will head towards us on Monday. At the same time, residual weak snowfalls will abate with heavy clouds. Towards next midweek, a weak south-westerly wind will bring temporarily foehny and significantly milder weather conditions. Afterwards, the chances for a return of winter are high.
