The hiking paradise of Sölden also has a marvelous winter season: 49.5 km of cleared, signposted winter hiking trails take walkers straight through snow-covered forests, white meadows and along Ötztaler Ache mountain brook. Adventure-seeking vacationers grab their snowshoes and listen to the crunching snow under their feet while lively Sölden disappears in the background. Trudging through the untouched white either on your own or accompanied by a local guide you will take new insights on the way to rustic mountain huts.
The loop trail along "Alte Niederthaier Straße" (old federal road of Niederthai) is much more demanding than it seems to be at first glance. The ascending route leads along Umhausen's high-altitude trail featuring a short but very steep uphill section where also the most avid cycling aficionados push their bike. The return route travels past Höfle: making a sharp right turn you reach Gasthof Stuibenfall renowned for its mouth-watering Tirolean specialties. Before enjoying a speedy downhill adventure on the old federal road you shouldn't miss out on making a short detour (5 minutes) by walking down to the rushing waters of the Stuiben Falls. A truly rewarding experience!
