Rotkogl Gondola

Hochsölden's tourism providers, offering 619 beds, achieved 69,000 overnight stays in the 2017/18 winter season. The direct connection to the ski area has always been an attractive added value for holiday makers in Hochsölden. From now on, it will be even more comfortable as the previous double chairlift - dating back to 1986 - was replaced by a top modern mountain gondola produced by the market leader Doppelmayr. It features 23 gondola cabins and has an hourly capacity of 1330 persons. Passengers reach the Giggijoch ski area from the base station in less than six minutes. The existing 1.2 km long line remains almost unaltered.

"For all tourists staying in Hochsölden, the former connection was no longer up-to-date. The new connection makes it possible that also non-skiers reach Giggijoch directly. Especially for children and beginners, the gondola lift promises convenient and safe transport to the beginners' area," states the management of Bergbahnen Sölden. The total investment amounts to 10 million Euros. A quite important aspect is the quick accessibility, regardless of snow conditions and skiing skills of winter sports fans. "Especially in autumn and spring Hochsölden is not always connected via ski slopes. Thanks to the new mountain gondola the hotel village moves even closer to the ski area". Further advantages include a slow entry and exit speed, protection against wind and weather and barrier-free access and exit areas. The location of the building changed only at the top station. While the base and middle stations at the height of "Eugen's Obstlerhütte" and "Sonnblick" remain the same, the top station is next to the Giggijoch restaurants.

The schedule for the realization of the project was tight. At the end of the winter season 2018/2019, the old chair lift was removed. The new mountain gondola is opened since 22 November 2019. In addition, the slope at the base station was broadened in order to extend the former narrow passage.
