tobogganing track Sölden
Family-friendly tobogganing adventures
The length of the new toboggan run from the middle station of Gaislachkogl gondola to Sölden will cover remarkable 7.2 kilometers. The final construction works for this project will take place in the 2019 summer. In the current winter season, passionate tobogganists can enjoy the already existing 1.5 km route from "Stiegele" down to the valley.
In early September 2018, construction work began on the rough route of the track in the upper part (middle station of Gaislachkogl mountain gondola - Stiegele). About two thirds were already completed by the end of November. "We would like to start with the completion of the track at the beginning of May 2019. In terms of earthworks, the last section of the route will be on the program. It's also very important to install crash protection systems throughout the upper section, as well as cable trenches and lighting pylons," explains Lukas Arnold, Project Manager at Bergbahnen Sölden.
MOUNTAIN LIFT COMPANY AS TRACK MAINTAINER
The infrastructural project is being implemented in cooperation with Ötztal Tourismus (Sölden Local Committee), the municipality of Sölden and Bergbahnen Sölden (Mountain Lift Company). The latter also take care of all the necessary work such as preparation, securing work and ongoing maintenance as operator and maintainer. "All toboggan fans can look forward to December 2019. We will install a family-friendly toboggan track with magnificent panoramic views, leading through varied landscapes. The new toboggan run has an average width of 3.5 meters and a gradient of about 12 percent. We would like to offer an experience in close touch with nature. Therefore the implementation is designed in a tailor-made way," Arnold emphasizes the special features.
NIGHT TOBOGGANING EVERY WEDNESDAY
In the current season - as in the previous year - the 1.5 km long lower section is available for sledding and tobogganing all day during operating hours. Once a week tobogganing fans can enjoy nighttime sledding fun on the illuminated track as part of the night skiing event. A comfortable shuttle bus takes all tobogganists to the start at Stiegele. "Thanks to the cooperation of all partners involved, we can implement a long-standing wish of both locals and guests. We very much look forward to the new, state-of-the-art toboggan run," explains Eberhard Schultes, Technical Manager of Bergbahnen Sölden.
