Mountain biking and walking can be perfectly combined on this fantastic route. A good alternative for all those who do not like walking downhill.
Trailhead for mountain bikers is picturesque Sautens: here you take the Ötztal Trail across the village. After 2 kilometers the asphalt trail leads into a forest path. In many switchbacks it takes you towards the wood-covered Bärental valley. What a great downhill ... you may probably think. After a short flat track you reach "Braggefleck" area, the bike depot. Don't forget to lock your bicycle!
The last 300 meters of altitude gain up to Bärentalhütte (not serviced, take a hearty snack with you) are much too step for conquering them on the mountain bike. In the meantime you enjoy unique views of Ötztal and lovely Lake Piburger See. Special tip: the lake's water temperature can reach 25 degree Celsius in summer. A great opportunity to take a refreshing swim after the tour.
Der Piburger See wird im Sommer bis zu 25 Grad warm. Gute Gelegenheit für eine Abkühlung nach dieser Mountainbiketour.
