Snowshoe hiking & winter walking

Step by step towards a holistic experience

The hiking paradise of Sölden also has a marvelous winter season: 49.5 km of cleared, signposted winter hiking trails take walkers straight through snow-covered forests, white meadows and along Ötztaler Ache mountain brook. Adventure-seeking vacationers grab their snowshoes and listen to the crunching snow under their feet while lively Sölden disappears in the background. Trudging  through the untouched white either on your own or accompanied by a local guide you will take new insights on the way to rustic mountain huts.

In the village center of Gries you keep to the south, cross the wooden bridge towards the edge of the wall and follow the steeply climbing trail through the forest, which merges into the cart road. A more leisurely but longer ascent to the mountain hut travels along the cart road that forks off to the right at the entrance to Sulztal valley. Hiking past Nisslalm you continue on the rising trail behind the hut, leading uphill towards the tree line for about 30 minutes. You get to grass-covered Alpine meadows. Proceed towards the steeply ascending rock ledges to the eastern ridge at 2600 m above sea level. The last part requires another hour as it travels to lofty heights on a precipitous path.

Turn-by-turn directions

In the village center of Gries you branch off to the south, over the wooden bridge to the wall edge. The climb leads up steeply through the forest and sometimes touches the road. A more comfortable, but longer access to the alpine pasture is found in the road, which turns right at the entrance of the valley of the valley. After reaching the Nisslalm, the trail continues past the alpine pasture and, above the edge of the forest, leads slightly upwards to the beautiful grassy ground in 30 minutes. The next section leads steeply over stone slabs and stretches over grassy ridges to the Ostrgrat at 2600 hm. up. For the further peak climb in rocky, steep terrain you need another hour.
