Snowboarders who like to go off-piste will find ideal conditions to perfect their powder turns in the Sölden ski area. The freeride area at Giggijoch is especially suitable for freeride novices, as the terrain is only moderately steep and just short hikes are required to reach the deep snow runs.

At opposite Gaislachkogl, which is over 3000 meters high, it’s a bit different. The fairly exposed Gaislachkogl summit offers great powder stashes towards all directions - with up to 2000 altitude meters. This is why this area is recommended only to experienced snowboarders who have their board firmly under control and are expert freeriders in the open terrain.

Whether Giggijoch or Gaislachkogl, the freeriding motto is: Safety comes first! There are several freeride checkpoints available that provide information about the current avalanche hazard. Complete freeride equipment, comprising airbag rucksack, avalanche transceiver (beeper), probe, shovel and helmet are a prerequisite for discovering off-piste slopes.
